# Points Clear > Enter your ticket and Points Clear shows whether a traffic school or defensive driving course can dismiss it, keep its points off your record or take points off your total, under your state's published rule, with the deadline and the costs. Points Clear applies the traffic school and defensive driving rules that US states and courts publish to the details a visitor enters, and returns one of four answers: eligible, points off, insurance only or not eligible. A rule that is not published appears as "not published" and never counts as a yes. Every rule carries its source and the month it was checked. Points Clear is not a law firm, a court or a traffic school. Rules are checked against official sources on the date shown. Your citation and your court decide. ## Tools - [Check a ticket](https://pointsclear.com/check): Enter the state, the violation, the speed and the ticket date to see what a traffic school or defensive driving course can do for this ticket. ## Rules by state - [Traffic school rules by state](https://pointsclear.com/states): What a traffic school or defensive driving course does for a ticket in each state and DC: the program, how often, the speed limit and the deadline. - [Alabama](https://pointsclear.com/states/al): Alabama has no state traffic school; some local courts run their own programs.
