New York PIRP defensive driving rules
In New York a PIRP course leaves the ticket and its points on your record; DMV subtracts up to 4 points toward a suspension. It applies once every 18 months.
Rules checked
New York never dismisses a ticket for a course. A DMV approved Point and Insurance Reduction Program course leaves the conviction and points on your record, but DMV subtracts up to 4 points when it counts toward a suspension, for violations dated in the 18 months before you finish. You can use it for points once in 18 months. The course runs 320 minutes in a classroom, online or by other approved delivery, and it also cuts the base rate of your liability and collision premiums by 10% for three years. It does not stop a mandatory suspension.
