What the dataset holds

  • 51 state rules, one for every state and one for Washington, DC: whether a course can dismiss a ticket, keep its points off the record or take points off, who qualifies, how often, the deadline and how to ask.
  • 51 point tables with the points each type of violation carries and how long they count.
  • 40 court records for courts in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada and Texas that publish their own rules, fees or deadlines.
  • 4 course providers, with the states each one serves and the prices each one publishes.

How we check it

We read every record on official pages, then checked it a second time against the same pages before it went live. Each record carries its sources, the date we read them and a confidence level. The current set was checked on October 14, 2026.

What is missing

Some states publish only part of their rule, and some court pages could not be read. Those gaps show as not published on the pages concerned, and the checker asks you to confirm with your court.

Re-checks

Laws and court rules change. We re-check every record within six months of the last check, and sooner where a change has been announced.

Corrections

To report a wrong rule, send the official page that shows it to info@pointsclear.com.

The same records in plain text, for software that reads the site: llms-full.txt, with an index at llms.txt.

Changelog

  1. First release: 51 state rules, 51 point tables, 40 court records and 4 course providers, each read on its official pages and checked a second time against the same pages.

Course providers

Prices, course lengths and formats come from each provider's own pages; approvals come from the state lists. The sources are listed on the provider comparison.

Known gaps

Our own readings

Arkansas and New Mexico: no statute or state page sets up a program that we could find. The checker never gives these states a yes.

Court dependent states without court records

Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington. Courts in this state set part of the rule, and we hold no court records here. The court named on your citation decides.

Arizona

  • Sources that disagreeArizona court fee tables list a $24 state fee, while A.R.S. 28-3397 caps that fee at $15. The court table shows the fees as the courts publish them. Next check due by .

California

  • Courts we could not readWe could not read the traffic pages of the Riverside, Sacramento and Santa Clara courts. A ticket there gets the state rule on this page; your court may differ, so check the citation.
  • Not publishedCourse length: Rule 4.104 of the California Rules of Court says 8 hours, while the DMV standard OL 613 says 340 minutes plus a 60 minute test. The rule table leaves the length as not published.

Colorado

  • Sources that disagreeA 2024 law creates a points waiver for drivers who finish a DMV approved course. It starts when the DMV adopts its rules or on January 1, 2027, whichever comes first. Next check due by .

Florida

  • Courts we could not readWe could not read the clerk pages for Palm Beach, Pinellas and Lee counties. A ticket there gets the state rule on this page; your clerk may differ.
  • Sources that disagreeThe clerk pages of Broward, Hillsborough, Miami-Dade and Duval counties still print five elections in a lifetime. Section 318.14(9) of the Florida Statutes allows eight, and the checker follows the statute.

Louisiana

  • Not publishedWe found no published point system, so the points table carries low confidence.

Mississippi

  • Sources that disagreeThe rule comes from the 2016 reprint of section 63-9-11 of the Mississippi Code. The state publishes no point schedule we could find, so the points table carries low confidence. Next check due by .

Nevada

  • Sources that disagreeSpeeding points: the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 483.510, last revised in 2006) and the DMV page give different values. The points table shows the NAC values. Next check due by .

New York

  • Sources that disagreeThe PIRP point and premium wording could not be confirmed on the DMV site after February 16, 2026. The rule shown is the last wording we could read. Next check due by .

North Carolina

  • Not publishedThe DMV clinic fee schedule is not published. The fee of $83.50 in the statute stands.

North Dakota

  • What the checker cannot askThe course is closed above 20 mph over on roads posted above 65 mph. The checker does not ask for the road type here, so it shows the points range and asks you to confirm with your court.

Ohio

  • Not publishedOhio publishes no remedial course length or price.

Rhode Island

  • Not publishedWe found no published point schedule, so the points table carries low confidence.

South Carolina

  • A second programEach circuit solicitor also runs a Traffic Education Program. It is described in the summary above and is not part of the checker, which follows the DMV point course.

Tennessee

  • Sources that disagreeThe point schedule comes from the 2014 rule filing, the latest published version we found. Next check due by .
  • A second programJudges may also offer traffic school in place of a conviction. That second program is described in the summary above and is not part of the checker, which follows the state course.

Texas

  • Courts we could not readWe could not read the pages of Plano Municipal Court or the Bexar County, Collin County and Dallas County justice courts. San Antonio Municipal Court and the Tarrant County justice courts publish nothing beyond the statute. A ticket there gets the state rule on this page.

Wisconsin

  • Not publishedWisconsin publishes no course length or price for the point reduction course.

Court pages that disagree with the state

  • Alameda County: Alameda bars tickets of 25 mph over and above. Rule 4.104 bars tickets of more than 25 mph over. The checker applies the court figure for Alameda tickets: up to 24 mph over.
  • Broward County: The clerk page says the course is closed for more than 30 mph over. Section 318.14(9) closes it at 30 mph over or more. The checker follows the statute: up to 29 mph over.
  • Broward County: The clerk page allows five elections in a lifetime. Section 318.14(9) allows eight. The checker follows the statute: eight.
  • Ventura County: The court page bars every CDL holder. Vehicle Code 42005(b) describes a route for a CDL holder ticketed in a personal car. The checker treats CDL holders as barred in every California court, as the state record does.
  • El Paso Municipal Courts: The court page lists fewer exclusions than the statute. The Texas statute on the state record lists the full set. The checker applies both lists together, so no statute bar drops out.
  • Corpus Christi Municipal Court: The court page lists fewer exclusions than the statute. The Texas statute on the state record lists the full set. The checker applies both lists together, so no statute bar drops out.
  • Brevard County: The clerk page says the civil penalty is not reduced when you elect the course. Section 318.14(9) reduces the civil penalty by 18%. Neither figure changes the answer. Ask the clerk which penalty applies.
  • Fresno County: The court page names the bar above 100 mph and not the bar above 25 mph over. Rule 4.104 bars tickets of more than 25 mph over. The checker applies both: more than 25 mph over and more than 100 mph are barred.
